A week ago I saw my favorite live show... maybe ever? Yeah, ever. I hopped across Flatbush to Brooklyn Masonic Temple for what turned out to be one of the treats of the year: Jelly NYC and Boost Mobile's Secret Society show featuring Thao & The Get Down Stay Down and I'm From Barcelona. I talked about Thao the other day, but up until now have been letting the IFB love sink in. Now that it's sunk, I need to share.

I first heard I'm From Barcelona last summer and was happy to catch them opening for Blonde Redhead at one of Jelly NYC's Pool Parties at McCarren pool. I thought they stole the show, and I'll challenge anyone to dispute that.

IFB is a 29 piece Swedish band. Seriously? Yeah, seriously. Headed by mastermind Emanuel Lundgren, the group brings the most energy imaginable to the stage (despite only having 16 of their members this time around). Their show banks heavily on the band members interacting with each other and the audience, nearly everyone singing at once, and crazy Swedish hipster fashion. Oh, and confetti. Lots and lots of confetti. All the confetti Sweden could provide. Emanuel crowd surfs, they play their 2006 album, they also play their tribute to Britney Spears, and I'm finding confetti in random places for up to a week post-concert.

In addition, we were treated to a few new tracks as well - "Surrounded," "Mingus," and "The Painter" were all new to me, and all sounded awesome. They had the crowd dancing, singing, and knocking around a ridiculous amount of giant balloons. I joked at the end of the night that I thought I might have had a concussion. They were slightly obnoxious from a photographers perspective, but I'll forgive all.

All in all, a phenomenal night. I hope they come back soon, and if they do, and if you miss them, you're a bad person.
